Fine and Rare Gentleman’s Press

A fine and rare gentleman’s press, produced by the workshop of William Vile and John Cobb during the height of Rococo Chippendale period, c.1750. Privately purchased and of exemplary quality and colour, the flame mahogany door panels opening to reveal six slides intended for linen or clothes, with applied paper labels which indicate later use as a filing cabinet. The whole piece survives in untouched condition, retaining a wonderful surface, concealed lignum vitae rollers behind bold bracket feet, and even the original lock.
