A Louis XV Bergère
A Louis XV Bergère, the carved beechwood frame, likely re-gilded in the 19th Century, having a carved central foliate motif on a rounded top rail, above a comfortable scooped back with upholstered scrolling arms, the seat rail with a conforming central foliate motif, raised on cabriole front legs, the knees carved with acanthus leaves and swept back legs, all terminating in scrolled feet. Traditionally upholstered and covered in an antique blue and white Swedish Mattress, the back left deconstructed showing the frame and inner workings of the chair. In superb condition having recently undergone extensive historic restoration, preserved for another 100 years of use, little patches of newly gilded squares leaving a trail of the chair’s history to be discovered. French, circa 1730
